Meba Wo Abrokyere
Meba Wo Abrokyere is a traditional Ghanaian fabric, primarily used by the Ashanti tribe, one of Ghana's largest tribes. This fabric is ideal for ceremonial occasions such as funerals, Christmas, Easter, weddings, church visits, or formal events in villages or towns. It comes in various qualities and features, ranging from simple designs to fully embellished ones with embroidery, towel patches, sequins, silver foil, and more.
Each Meba Wo Abrokyere has unique features and specialties. The product names indicate the quality and the type of embroidery or additional features. At Jansen Holland, we offer the Obama and President varieties in our online store.
Meba Wo Abrokyere designs
The designs often feature one or more Adinkra symbols, traditionally used by Ghanaians. Historically, Adinkra clothing was reserved for royal families and leaders during spiritual occasions like funerals, a tradition that continues today. While traditionally red, dark brown, and black, modern versions now include brighter colours and various embellishments.
Meba Wo Abrokyere features
Meba Wo Abrokyere is available in 12-yard lengths (approximately 11 meters) and 1.20 meters in width. Traditional colours include black with black embroidery, black with red embroidery, red with red embroidery, and black with dark embroidery. Brighter colours feature embroidered patterns on soft-toned fabrics like cream or white.
The Obama variety is richly embroidered with some empty spaces, giving it a vibrant look. The President variety features satin patches, adding an extra touch of luxury.
